The base processing system is Linux micmac 2.4.18-17.7.x #1 Tue Oct 8 11:34:32 EDT 2002 i686 unknown running RedHat 7.3 on a 773 Mhz Dell currently with 768 MB of RAM. When first purchased, this machine was provided with RedHat 6.2 and only 256 MB of RAM, so pretty much any Linux system nowdays can effectively run the processing system.
Software required includes
NetCDF library and utilities. These should probably be installed in /usr/local.
MySQL: RPMs needed are
mysql-3.23.56-1.80
mysqlclient9-3.23.22-8
mysql-server-3.23.56-1.73 (unnecessary in RedHat 8.0)
Samba: RPMs needed are
samba-2.2.7
samba-client-2.2.7
samba-common-2.2.7
MATLAB
Mex interface to NetCDF written by Chuck Denham, USGS. This is stored at ${DATA_ROOT}/matlab/netcdf.
Mex interface to MySQL written by Kimmo Uutela.
MATLAB NetCDF utilities written by John Evans, located in ${DATA_ROOT}/matlab/gomoos-netcdf
GOMOOS-specific MATLAB m-files located in ${DATA_ROOT}/matlab/buoy-mfiles
Perl is used to automate GOES download from Wallops. The Perl RPMs at levels
perl-5.6.1-34.99.6
perl-Expect-1.15-1
perl-IO-Tty-1.02-1
perl-DBI-1.21-1
perl-DBD-MySQL 1.2219-6
Rsync is used to update the remote data archive, and is pretty much standard on all linux distributions these days.
VNC is used to supply a virtual display. This can be used as an XWindows display to which MATLAB can connect in case the number crunching machine needs to run headless (i.e. without a physical display). The basic processing does not need this, but graphics production does. VNC is not part of the usual Linux installation, but is readily available as an RPM, version
vnc-3.3.3r2-28.2
vnc-server-3.3.3r2-28.2 (unnecessary for RedHat 8)
NCO NetCDF utilities written by Charles Zender are optional, but greatly help in slicing and dicing NetCDF files.
