GOM01-2001-CT Cruise:

Four GoMOOS moorings were deployed on the R/V Connecticut from 7 - 10 July 2001. The R/V Connecticut departed Groton, Connecticut early on 6 July and arrived in at the Rockland Coast Guard pier by 7 July. Mooring F was loaded onto the vessel and the ship then transited to mooring F0101 to begin recovery operations. After F0101 was recovered, the new GoMOOS mooring F0102 was deployed by 2100 UTC on 7 July 2001. The ship returned to Rockland after mooring operations in Penobscot Bay were completed, reloaded 4 new GoMOOS moorings and departed Rockland on 8 July at 1700 UTC.

The ship arrived at site I by 2100 UTC on 8 July but electronic problems with the instrumentation for that site prevented deployment of mooring I. A CTD cast and an optical profile by Bigelow scientists were completed at the site. After departing from site I, the ship began the transit to site E. Moorings E0101, B0101, and A0101 were deployed and were each followed by a CTD cast and optical profile. The ship arrived in Gloucester early on 10 July and scientific gear was offloaded for return to Maine. A list of the moorings deployed are shown in the table below:

Acknowledgements:

We are indebted to Captain J.Cabaniss and the entire crew of the R/V Connecticut for their tecnical expertise, excellent support, and patience. In addition, the support by the Rockland Coast Guard was invaluable in providing a berth for the ship and also for the excellent crane operations support by the Coast Guard cutter Abby Burgess's Jon Grout in loading and unloading all of the mooring gear throughout the weekend.
